Expansion

   What would,
               the world be like,
      Without expansion,

             Simpler?
   Slower lifestyles?
           Self sustainable? 

                      I guess......

                     But,
           Mainly you would have to consider,
                     Life without empires,

                The only reason,
                             For empires,
                       Or for any form of government for that matter,
                                           to exist,
                    Is the protection of property,

                                And while yes,
                The meaning of property has evolved,
                                         Over the centuries,

             It been overwhelmingly for the better.

                                   For society has learned a moral compass,
                        Of what is right,
                                         And what is wrong,
                                 Through fast amounts,
                                                 of recorded documentation (history),             

                   Expansion was a necessity,
                                                       to survive,
           For without it,
                      We would still be,
                Waring tribes,
                            Roaming Nomads,

                       Without any sense of law,
