A New Perspective on Age

With age comes responsibility... i think that's a fair assessment that everyone realizes when they get older... Theres certain ways to act in a variety of situations and your expected to act more professionally in these situations rather then letting them spin out of control.. I think everyone realizes this part of age and will not argue...

My new perspective while driving home from work tonight was the realization that I'm not important.. While yes i am important, my inner goals in life should not be centered around my own selfish viewpoint... Adults grow older and realize this, they want another part of themselves and thus a relationship is born.. Your no longer dealing with your own singular views anymore and have someone to help you along the way...

Eventually I might have kids, they start to grow up, become teenagers... But every little event they have seems like the most important thing in the world.. When in reality, in a few years a couple people might remember that event and tell a story about a particular event.. That's all we are when we leave for adult hood... Stories and ideas...

you said: "my inner goals in life should not be centered around myown selfish viewpoint.."

There are a lot that disagree, rejecting your altruism, that even though your intentions may be good, trying to be centered around others invariably drags you or them down somehow, that we should all watch out for ourselves,... The road to hell is paved with good intentions. You should not be any slave to my idealogy, will, needs, or wants. Also vice versa, I should not be to yours, the world would be a whole lot better off because if people are actually worried about themselves, maybe they will change things so they themselves dont have to experience those bad things.

For example, Ayn Rand said this:

"individuals must choose their values and actions solely by reason, and that "Man — every man — is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others." According to Rand, the individual "must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life."

The more I have to rely on outside people for things, the weaker I am and the weaker society is as a whole. I do see your point of, if everyone would stop thinking for themselves and stop acting as though they were the center of the universe, maybe the world would be better, but I thought I would bring up another point to consider.

i wouldn't want to live in this cold desolate world my entire existance alone. never able to connect with another being, or care for another. living in a tiny box, only to throw money on a fire..

From my standpoint, being off centered might be a good thing. Maybe seeing the highs and lows as a group builds relationships between sets of individuals. Would i really want to care about myself my entire life, of course, but be selfish and act soley for my own sake? no..

I'm taking your response as a joke, because it leads to dictatorship. While your master of your domain, the people around you will suffer from your naked eye.. The world today wouldn't exist if it worn't for men sacrificing themselves for others. Life, liberty, and the persuit of happyness would be meaningless.

And that the foundation of our country, the support of the declaration of independence that "with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.."
